Camilo Vigil
April 28, 2020
The Villa, Gardens, and Retreat, this letter is coming to you from Camilo Vigil’s family. As you all know our beloved dad passed away on April 5, 2020. We are writing to let you know that my dad’s time at your facility was so rewarding and heaven-sent at our time of need, we appreciate all of you so very much. Our dad was someone who loved people, he was able to share that love with you. You became part of our family, the time he shared with you will never be forgotten. We thank all of you for your kindness, your patience, your expertise, and mainly your love that you showed our dad on a daily basis. Dad always was a man of integrity and he taught us so many things but mainly to treat people well. Because of his disease some times he wasn’t so easy to please, but always know that his heart was always thankful and full of love for all of you. We could name so many people and so many times that we witnessed the professionalism and the caring of all the staff, but they are too many. Honestly, we thought we had more time with dad, his steep decline somewhat shocked us but yet we never really knew what to expect. We look forward to the day we can visit the facility and thank you in person. Please know that there aren’t enough words to truly express our gratefulness for the support and care you gave our dad, but not only him, but every resident was also treated with respect and dignity.
Because of the Covid situation, we were not able to have services, but we will notify you when that will be, we are prepared to have something very special for him when time permits. For now, again please accept our heartfelt thanks for all you did for dad. The Retreat is a very special place and you should be so proud of the work you do. Our hope is that dad is up in heaven dancing with our mother and with all the angels. I’m sure he has everyone up early and a schedule of work for everyone, but always time for dancing! We miss him so much and have been so blessed to have him. Thank you again, please let the residents know that we are praying for them and that we love them. We look forward to seeing you sometime soon, may God Bless you, keep you safe and know that you made a big impact on our family, thank you for loving our dad.

Just over two years ago, my husband’s and my declining health made it unsafe for me to continue caring for him at home. Retreat Healthcare was highly recommended to us by several of our daughter’s public health colleagues, so we felt a bit better about him moving into Retreat Gardens, the Assisted Living part of Retreat Healthcare’s beautiful campus in Rio Rancho. As my husband’s health declined and his care needs increased, he was transferred across the street to The Retreat, a specialized Memory Care facility for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s dementia patients. As a former hospice volunteer who spent many hours with patients in hospitals and long-term care facilities, I know what to look for in caregiving. What I’ve witnessed through observing and interacting with Retreat Healthcare employees is the care and professionalism demonstrated by them every single day. It starts with Retreat Healthcare’s directors and is exemplified by those working in nursing and patient care, food service, maintenance and administration. It’s obvious to me why Retreat Healthcare is the only Assisted Living/Memory Care facility in New Mexico to be accredited by the Joint Commission, our nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. I highly recommend Retreat Healthcare to anyone looking for exceptional long-term care in New Mexico.

After a great deal of searching for the perfect setting, we found The Retreat, and we are grateful we did. The warmth, compassion, and professionalism of the staff at The Retreat are remarkable. We are continually amazed by the loving kindness and professional care at
The Retreat. The unstinting devotion they invest in Beth and in all the residents takes the edge off of the sadness of not having her here with us.
The staff extends their warmth, compassion, and humor to us every time we visit. We are so glad that we found The Retreat.

When I knew I couldn’t care for my husband in our home, I found The Retreat – a place where I never had to worry about his care. You have given to me over the years: a friendly smile; a welcoming hug; a listening ear; a thoughtful gesture; an understanding nod; and a caring heart. You knew what we needed, even when we didn’t, and you provided it anyway. You have carried me through those difficult days.

I wanted to express my thanks for all the outstanding caregivers who provided care to my sweetie and soulmate. With the 100 miles that separated us, I never worried about his care. You were always respectful, caring and compassionate. For that, I will always be grateful to
The Retreat.

During the almost 2 years my mom lived at The Retreat and Retreat Gardens, she had a quality of life that gave her contentment and happiness. As her family we are appreciative and thankful of the loving care she received.

I put off my sister leaving my home because I worried so much about how she would be cared for. But even that first night I went there to set up her room, I met so many of the staff from The Retreat who were so kind and caring. Their reassurances were so sincere that I went away feeling at ease. It made my sadness and guilt less heartbreaking for me. Over the year and half she was at The Retreat I missed her, but I never doubted that she was being well taken care of and even loved by many of the staff. So for lack of a better word, Thank You.
